Andrology

The chances of fertilization and pregnancy increase with a good sperm preparation using the appropriate media and choosing the IUI catheter that best covers each patient’s needs.

Sperm Preparation

The Main objective of sperm preparation is to retrieve a subpopulation of spermatozoa with good motility, viability and chromatin integrity for IUI, conventional IVF or ICSI.

Density gradient method

Is one the most widely used strategies for this purpose. Sepasperm® Solution is used for separation of motile sperm from non-germ cells, immotile spermatozoa and seminal fluid using a density gradient centrifugation (1).

High quality spermatozoa recovered is washed with Gamete Buffer and maintained in Gamete Buffer/ Fertilization Media until usage for IVF/ICSI techniques or loaded in the IUI Catheter for intrauterine insemination.

Intra-uterine insemination

Is a low complexity assisted reproduction treatment; where a spermatozoa sample, either from partner or a donor, is introduced into the woman’s uterus.

With this procedure, the chances of pregnancy increases compared to a sexual intercourse because the sperm sample is previously treated in the laboratory and the ovary is also stimulated to control the growth and maturation of the eggs (2). Placing the treated sample with Kitazato IUI Catheters in the woman’s uterus reduces the distance that the spermatozoa must travel to reach the oocyte and insemination scheduling allows maximizing the chances of fertilization and pregnancy.

Kitazato IUI Catheters are available in four levels of rigidity and two differents lengths to meet all preferences and needs

Malleable stylet with internal channel is available for any of the insemination catheters, allowing to give the desired shape and deposit the sample in the chosen place.

Sperm samples cryopreserved

Sperm samples can also be cryopreserved for a future IVF cycle or for male fertility preservation reasons. The sperm sample is mixed with Sperm Freeze which contains cryoprotectants that will maintain the reproductive potential of the sperm after cryopreservation and storage under liquid nitrogen (-196°C)(3).
