Oocyte Retrieval

The IVF journey starts with the oocyte retrieval process:

OPU needles, media and oils ensure successful follicular aspiration and maximize the number of oocytes retrieved.

Follicular aspiration

A procedure based on the extraction of the oocytes from the ovary carried out by ultrasound-guided follicular puncture. The technique consists of aspirating the fluid from the ovarian follicles vaginally using an ultrasound-guided needle.

Less tissue injuries, faster pacient recovery

Thanks to the quality of their steel and their original triple cut blade, Kitazato Oocyte Retrieval Needles minimize trauma and tissue injuries, allowing a fast recovery of the patient after the ovarian puncture.

Thin Wall Design

Smaller external diameter reduces the possibility of bleeding and the risk of injuries in the uterine lining whilst minimizing stress in the oocyte during the aspiration.

Widest range of gauges on the market

With the aim of minimizing distress to the patient, Kitazato offers a full range of Thin Wall needles from 16G to 21G. The smallest diameters are ideal for patients with low response or for natural cycles, even allowing to work without anesthesia during the ovarian puncture.

Laser made echogenic tip

Kitazato Oocyte Retrieval Needles have an echogenic tip marking that guarantees high visibility to the very tip that facilitates the correct approach to the follicle during follicular aspiration.

Handle with positioning marking

In addition, the handle is provided with positioning marking that helps to control the position of the needle blade throughout the puncture process.

Laboratory routine

  • The oocytes will be retrieved in the follicular fluid and collected in Kitazato Aspiration media at 37°C to maintain their physiological environment until they are delivered to the Laboratory.
  • Once in the Laboratory, oocytes are separated from the follicular fluid and transferred to Petri dishes with Gamete Buffer covered with Hypure® Oil, to remove blood and cellular debris.
  • The oocytes are then prepared to be fertilized by a conventional IVF or ICSI technique, or to be vitrified for usage in the future.

Uncomfort to the patient should be reduced during aspiration procedure and oocytes must be handled carefully to minimize stress and damage to their cellular structures.

A successful follicular aspiration should maximize the number of oocytes retrieved to enhance ART goal, which is maximizing the number of healthy new borns per stimulated cycle(1).
